December 3, 2010Several musicians taking part in the Experience Hendrix tour — including Brad Whitford (AEROSMITH),Jonny Lang and Chris Layton (STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN AND DOUBLE TROUBLE) — will perform the JIMI HENDRIX classic "Fire" on NBC-TV's "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" on Monday, December 6.
Whitford recently spoke to BackstageAxxess.com about his participation in Experience Hendrix, the concert tour that has wowed audiences revisiting the music and inspiration of Jimi Hendrix with an all-star lineup of music greats. You can now watch the chat below.
"[Jimi's] had such a profound effect ... and still does to this day," Whitford told The Macomb Daily. "It's something we'll be talking about until we're six feet under. The body of work that he did in such a short period ... I think it's astounding that he was able to do that and leave this incredible, lasting impression. It's hard to grasp it all."
Whitford said that he became a diehard Hendrix devotee after hearing the first JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE album, "Are You Experienced?", and seeing the trio perform at the Boston Gardens. "It just really changed the way I thought about music and about guitar and about even what kind of guitar I was gonna play and what kind of amplifiers I was gonna use," he recalled. "It opened up a new way of thinking about music. It was like a door opened when he came along and created this new avenue that I just somehow had to be part of."
